The Leading Strand is a TED Residency-backed multidisciplinary initiative founded by Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya to bring the disparate worlds of design and science together to deepen our understanding of what's possible. Important research may be complex and dense, but through visual translation it is transformed into a medium that makes the information both digestible and delightful.
Amanda is a Creative Director and Design Strategist working at the intersection of design and science. Before becoming a designer, Amanda studied neuroscience at Columbia University and spent several years conducting Alzheimer's research at Columbia Medical Center.
A huge believer in the profound impact of interdisciplinary work, her project Beyond Curie, uses visual design to highlight the stories and achievements of extraordinary women in STEM who have changed history. The project strives to bridge the gap between the general public and scientific community by infusing the perception of science with more humanity.
With The Leading Strand, she hopes to highlight important research through design to communicate its nuance and underscore its importance.
